Movie Review: Bad Teacher

Bad Teacher

R, 1 hr. 32 min.
Directed By
Jake Kasdan
Written By
Gene Stupnitsky, Lee Eisenberg
Genres
Comedy

Main Actors: Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake, Lucy Punch, Jason Segal

Easy on the eyes factor: 6 (if you think Cameron Diaz is sexy. I do not. Some girls will like Justin Timberlake, but he's such a tool in this film. Lucy Punch is pretty in a small way.)

30 Minute Rule: (Does the movie grab you in the first 30 Minutes): Unfortunately, Yes. That's why you keep watching.

Plot: Some teachers just don't give an F. For example, there's Elizabeth (Cameron Diaz). She's foul-mouthed, ruthless, and inappropriate. She drinks, she gets high, and she can't wait to marry her meal ticket and get out of her bogus day job. When she's dumped by her fiancé, she sets her plan in motion to win over a rich, handsome substitute (Justin Timberlake) - competing for his affections with an overly energetic colleague, Amy (Lucy Punch). When Elizabeth also finds herself fighting off the advances of a sarcastic, irreverent gym teacher (Jason Segel), the consequences of her wild and outrageous schemes give her students, her coworkers, and even herself an education like no other.

My Review: Bad Teacher was bad. This movie sucked. I should tell you that I'm not the biggest fan of comedy, but I know when I see a good one. And this was not a good comedy for me. It primarily used sex in the punchline for almost every joke. Cameron flaunts her sexuality as only she can. And please tell me, whoever said that she was hot anyway? When she burst on to the Hollywood scene in Jim Carrey's The Mask back in 1994 (Yes, 1994. 18 years ago), she was 22 and what some would call hot. She's been holding on to that same character ever since then and has not improved one bit. She can be funny though. I'll give her that. Something About Mary was very funny, but that was 14 years ago. And outside of Princess Fiona in Shrek, I can't honestly tell you that not many of her films are memorable. And they are definitely getting less sexy. So now, she's destined to be stuck in the "cougar" roles because she's missed her calling. If there was ever a calling.

I totally got off track. I'm supposed to be reviewing the movie, not Cameron Diaz. So Bad Teacher is everything that we hate in movies; very predictable, demeaning, and insults our intelligence because they seem to want to force feed you the main character. I'm just not chewing. As for Justin Timberlake, he's such a tool in this film. He overacts in every scene. Watching him in this movie is like watching a SNL skit over and over. In fact, the best actor and role in the whole movie is Jason Segal as the rejected gym teacher. He's very funny and has very good lines.

Rating: 3 of 10.
